Laura Julian

Laura Julian serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Music Department at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), where she concurrently pursues her Ph.D. in Musicology while working as a collaborative pianist and vocal instructor.

Her academic foundation includes:

• Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance and Piano from Northern Michigan University
• Master of Music in Music Therapy from Western Michigan University

Julian's professional expertise centers on clinical Music Therapy applications, particularly in hospice care and memory care units for dementia patients, alongside therapeutic interventions for adolescents with anxiety disorders. Her scholarly trajectory now expands into Musicology through doctoral research, maintaining parallel commitments to Vocal Performance practice and pedagogy.

With 24 years of professional piano performance experience for organizations like Bissell in Grand Rapids, Michigan—including work with high school choirs, weddings, and dinners—Julian integrates extensive real-world clinical practice as a former hospice therapist and private business owner serving diverse neurological populations. She further enriches her profile through original music composition and visual arts practice in painting and drawing.
