Laura-Isobel McCall, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma. Her work focuses on understanding microbial interactions with hosts and environments, particularly in the context of neglected tropical diseases like Chagas disease and leishmaniasis. She leads the McCall Lab, which uses mass spectrometry-based chemical cartography and big data analytics to study microbiome dynamics and parasite-host interactions.
Education:
- B.Sc., McGill University (2009)
- Ph.D., McGill University (2013)
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: UCSF (2013-2014) and UC San Diego (2014-2017)
Research Interests: Her lab investigates chemical signaling between microbes, hosts, and environments using metabolomics and spatial mapping techniques. Current projects include studying Trypanosoma cruzi's interaction with cardiac tissue and gut microbiota in Chagas disease, with goals to improve diagnostics and treatment strategies.
Labs/Teams: McCall Lab (website: mccall-lab.oucreate.com) focuses on integrating chemical biology with parasitology to address global health challenges.
