Laura Goodwin

Laura Goodwin is an Associate Professor in Emergency Care at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the School of Health and Social Wellbeing within the College of Health, Science and Society and the Centre for Health and Clinical Research (CHCR) Emergency Care Theme.

Her research centers on pre-hospital maternity care, urgent/emergency care systems, and maternity research, with methodological expertise in qualitative and mixed methods approaches. Key interests include neonatal hypothermia in unplanned births, paramedic roles in end-of-life care, patient safety, workforce design, and health outcome inequalities—particularly focused on improving outcomes for babies born unexpectedly outside hospitals.

Analysis of her 2021-2025 publications reveals dominant themes in prehospital birth management, neonatal temperature regulation, paramedic screening for advance care planning, and health disparities in maternal/perinatal outcomes. Her work consistently bridges qualitative insights with clinical practice to address systemic challenges in emergency care.

Dr. Goodwin secured Health Innovation South West funding for her prehospital newborn temperature management project and leads studies on emergency department streaming, dementia care responses, and airway management in cardiac arrest.

She actively collaborates within UWE Bristol's Emergency Care Theme, driving multidisciplinary research to translate findings into improved urgent care services and policies with documented national and international impact.
