Dr. Laura Dowsett is a Research Fellow at the BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, University of Glasgow. She holds a BSc in Pharmacology and Physiology from the University of Manchester and a PhD from Imperial College London under Dr. James Leiper, focusing on DDAH enzymes and ADMA in obesity models. Her postdoctoral work at UCL’s Institute of Ophthalmology investigated retinal disease and cancer angiogenesis.
- Research Themes: Vascular Diseases, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Obesity, Hypertension
- Current Interests: Calcium-sensing receptor in cardiometabolic disease, adipose-vascular crosstalk, endothelial heterogeneity
Recent articles highlight work on endothelial metabolic responses, SDMA in cerebrovascular disease, and ADMA’s role in atherosclerosis. She leads projects funded by the British Heart Foundation and Novo Nordisk, exploring sex differences in disease and vascular complications of diabetes. Teaching includes mentoring students and lecturing in cardiovascular sciences.
- Grants: Investigating sex differences in cardiometabolic disease (2024–2027), ADMA signaling in diabetes (2021–2024)
- Labs: Part of the Leiper Lab and developing her own research group
