Laura Cousens, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sport Management at Brock University. Her research focuses on community sport networks, sport for development, and institutional theory. She employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine inter-organizational relationships in sport systems globally.
Dr. Cousens has held professional affiliations with organizations including the North American Society for Sport Management and the European Association of Sport Management. She currently serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing.
Her research interests emphasize how community sport organizations navigate commercialization pressures and collaborative strategies to enhance sport participation. Recent work includes studies on basketball networks and coordinated initiatives to boost community engagement in sport.
Teaching includes courses like Sport for Development and Strategic Alliances. She co-founded the Niagara Sport Commission and co-edited special journal issues on inter-organizational relationships in sport management.
