Laura Correa Ochoa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Rice University. She specializes in the social history of modern Latin America and the Caribbean, with a focus on Colombia, particularly histories of race, ethnicity, political violence, and Afro-Latin American and Indigenous social movements. Her work examines how race and ethnic differences shape political conflicts and mobilization against discrimination.
Education:
- PhD in Latin America and Caribbean History, Harvard University (2021)
- BA (Hons) in History and Political Science, University of Toronto (2013)
Research Interests: Ochoa’s research explores the intersection of race, nation, and mobilization in Colombia (1930–2022), with a focus on Indigenous and Black communities. She also investigates Pan-Africanism in Colombia and territorial struggles as knowledge production through a digital humanities project.

- Bilingual digital humanities project Territorial Struggles as Knowledge Production, collaborating with Colombian and Canadian scholars/activists to document Black, Indigenous, and peasant territorial activism.
Teaching: Courses on Latin American/Caribbean history, race/ethnicity, social movements, and radical politics in the Americas.
