Dr. Laura Candidatu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University, affiliated with the Graduate Gender Program. She coordinates BA Minors in Gender and Postcolonial Studies and teaches in the Gender Studies MA programs. Her research focuses on gender and diaspora, media and migration, digital ethnography, and feminist methodologies. She has published widely on digital diasporas, diasporic mothering, and algorithmic governance. Her work intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to gender equality and social justice.
- Education: PhD in Media and Cultural Studies (Utrecht University, 2021)
Research interests include the role of digital media in diasporic formations, transnational connectivity, and the intersection of migration with gender and motherhood. She co-leads projects on feminist approaches to computational thinking and algorithmic management. Her recent work explores the datafied welfare state and gendered citizenship in the Netherlands.
Publications span journals like Communication, Culture and Critique and book chapters in edited volumes such as Handbook of Feminist Research Methodologies. She collaborates with international scholars on mapping methodologies for transnational digital connections.
