Latoya Brooks-Key is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Work in the Master of Social Work Program at Johnson C. Smith University's College of Business and Professional Studies, where she joined the faculty in August 2019. She holds licenses as a Licensed Independent Social Worker of Clinical Practice (LISW-CP) in South Carolina and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
- Education: Ph.D. in Human Sexuality and MSW from Widener University; MA in Health Education (Family Life & Sexuality Education) from New York University; BS in Psychology from Howard University.
Her research and clinical expertise bridges clinical social work with sexology, focusing on human sexuality, sexual health, and holistic/integrative approaches to mental wellness. She advocates for the integration of African and Indigenous healing modalities with modern social work practice.
Dr. Brooks-Key has presented at national and international conferences on topics including sexuality, mental health, diversity, and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. Her work emphasizes emotional balance, wellness, and cultural competence in serving marginalized communities, particularly those involving LGBTQIA+ and BDSM populations.
