Key research areas include the symbolic use of architectural symmetry, Renaissance Christ portraiture, and the propagation of medieval iconographic motifs. Notable contributions analyze Winckelmann's aesthetics, the role of polychromy in ancient sculpture, and the psychological perception of facial symmetry in art.
Publications span over 30 years, covering topics from 12th-century tapestries to 20th-century architecture aesthetics. His monographs include The Virginity of the Virgin: A Study in Marian Iconography (2012) and Sponsus Amat Sponsam (2007). He co-authored Mater Christi (2008) and edited volumes like Continuatio & Renovatio (2006).
Teaching includes courses on art history methodologies (KUH3000) and sources. His research often integrates historical analysis with contemporary debates, such as the intersection of neuroscience and art perception.
