Dr. Lars de Wildt is an Assistant Professor in Media & Cultural Industries at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and the Centre for Media & Journalism Studies. His research explores how media cultures and industries shape global worldviews, with a focus on religion in digital games, conspiracy theories, and cross-cultural adaptations. He holds an NWO Veni Fellowship for his project on Western video games' adaptation to Chinese players and policies. Previously, he conducted research at institutions like Leuven, Heidelberg, and Tampere.
His work includes the Open Access book The Pop Theology of Videogames, analyzing how games engage with religious themes. He has been part of the AHRC-funded 'Everything Is Connected' project on conspiracy theories and is an active member of academic networks like YARN (Young ARts Network) and the Young Academy Groningen (YAG).
