Lars Rensmann

Professor Lars Rensmann currently holds the Chair of Political Science with a focus on Comparative Government at the University of Passau since the summer semester of 2022. Prior to this, he served as Professor of European Policy and Society at the University of Groningen, Associate Professor of Political Science at John Cabot University in Rome, and DAAD Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan.

• Research Focus: Global comparative analysis of democracy crises, authoritarian tendencies, right-wing populism, antisemitism, and right-wing radicalism.
• Current Projects: Leading a "darkfield study" in North Rhine-Westphalia to investigate antisemitic prejudice and resentment.
• Contributions: Authored a 2021 analysis on the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party's integration of antisemitism into its program, served as an expert advisor to the German Bundestag in 2023, and contributed to public discourse via media appearances (BBC, Trouw, Belltower.News).

His academic career bridges political theory, comparative government, and critical theory, with interdisciplinary collaborations on societal challenges like digitalization and sustainability.
