Lars Karlsson is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Economic History, Uppsala University. He works at both the Department of Economic History and the Centre for Business History. His research focuses on financial history, environmental economics, and international trade.

His research examines topics such as banking efficiency (e.g., Swedish commercial banking 1912–1938), international trade (e.g., war impacts on trade flows during 1830–1913), and environmental policy (e.g., Swedish pulp and paper industry under the 1969 Environment Protection Act). Recent publications include a 2025 study on foreign investment in Swedish industry before WWI and a 2023 analysis of Sweden's trade patterns over 240 years.
