Lars Eric Hientzsch

Lars Eric Hientzsch is a junior research group leader at the Institute for Analysis within the Department of Mathematics at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He leads the Junior Research Group "Vortices and nonlinear waves" and is a member of the Collaborative Research Center CRC1173 Wave phenomena, where he leads project AP9. His office is located at Kollegiengebäude Mathematik (20.30) 3.037, Englerstrasse 2, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany.

Hientzsch's research primarily concerns the mathematical analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations arising in the description of (geo-)physical and quantum fluid flow. His specific interests include:

• Coherent structures such as (quantised) vortices and vortex filaments
• Well- and ill-posedness of related equations
• Hydrodynamic stability
• Characterisation of relevant asymptotic dynamics
• Mathematical techniques from Fourier Analysis
• Theory for dispersive, hyperbolic and transport equations

Analysis of his publication record reveals a strong focus on mathematical fluid dynamics with particular emphasis on quantum fluids, wave phenomena, and vortex dynamics. His recent work explores fundamental questions about the dynamics of point vortices, ill-posedness phenomena in fluid equations, low Mach number limits, and existence theory for quantum fluid models.

Hientzsch completed his PhD at Gran Sasso Science Institute in 2019 under the supervision of Paolo Antonelli and Pierangelo Marcati. Prior to joining KIT, he held postdoctoral positions at Bielefeld University (within Collaborative Research Center 1283) and at Institut Fourier, University of Grenoble Alpes.

He is actively involved in the academic community, organizing mini-symposia and participating in numerous conferences related to harmonic analysis and fluid dynamics. His research group currently has an open PhD position, and he welcomes Master's thesis students interested in his research areas.
