Lars E. Eriksson is a Professor of Nursing at Karolinska Institutet and holds a part-time Professor position at City St George's, University of London. He is affiliated with the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society at Karolinska and the School of Health and Medical Sciences at City St George's. His research focuses on biobehavioral and translational nursing science, particularly in chronic conditions like HIV, MRSA, and lung cancer, emphasizing quality of life, stigma, and patient-reported outcomes.
Education: PhD in Nursing (Karolinska Institutet, 2003), MSc in Chemistry (Stockholm University, 2001), University Certificate in Nursing (Stockholm, 1985). He has extensive clinical experience in hematology, immunology, and HIV care.
Research Interests: Linking biological, behavioral, and social factors in chronic illnesses; early lung cancer diagnosis via symptom and biomarker integration; HIV stigma in the era of ART; reproductive health in cancer survivors; and occupational mental health in healthcare workers.
Grants include projects funded by the Swedish Research Council, the Vårdal Foundation, and Horizon 2020 for lung cancer diagnostics and Magnet4Europe (mental health in healthcare workplaces). He leads the Lars E. Eriksson Research Group and collaborates with institutions globally, including the University of Pennsylvania and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
Current roles include Associate and Vice Division Lead at Karolinska's Division of Nursing and supervising over 20 PhD students. His work bridges research, education, and clinical practice to improve healthcare outcomes.
