Larry L. Banks is an Associate Professor of Media Arts, Chair of the Film, Television & Media Arts Department, and Area Head of Film and TV at Long Island University. He holds a B.A. from Rutgers University and an M.F.A. from Long Island University, Post.

His research and professional specialties focus on Film, Television and Video Production, and Documentaries. He has collaborated with esteemed directors such as Spike Lee, Forest Whitaker, and Steve Horn, contributing to the creative vision of numerous projects.
Banks has directed and produced notable films and documentaries, including A Litany for Survival: The Life and Works of Audre Lorde (1994), Soul Vietnam/Black Amerasians: Forgotten Casualties of Vietnam (1995), and John Henrik Clarke: A Great and Mighty Walk (1996). He also served as Director of Photography for feature films like Juice and Strapped, and created commercials for major brands such as Nike, Levi-Strauss, and AT&T.
As Founder/Director/Producer of Namaste Productions in New York City, he has led diverse projects, including the HBO series Jazzman trailer and the HD feature Blackbird (1998). His work spans narrative films, documentaries, and commercial production, emphasizing storytelling across multiple mediums.
