Larry Hedges is a Professor of Statistics and Data Science, Education and Social Policy, and Psychology at Northwestern University. He holds the title of Board of Trustees Professor and is also a Professor of Medical Social Sciences. As Co-Director of the STEPP Center, he leads interdisciplinary research in statistical methodologies. His work is supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, Institute of Education Sciences, and others.
He earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University in 1980. His research focuses on meta-analysis, replication crisis analysis, experimental design, and policy research, particularly in education. He also explores cognitive science's role in uncertainty processing and the demography of human abilities. His influential books include Statistical Methods for Meta-Analysis and The Handbook of Research Synthesis.
Key grants include funding from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and the Yidan Prize Foundation. Hedges collaborates extensively with institutions like the IPR and the STEPP Center, emphasizing methodological rigor and knowledge accumulation in education and social sciences.
