Larry Dissmore is Professor of Violin and Viola and Director of Orchestral Activities at Evangel University, where he has served since 1988. He leads the Concert Orchestra and University Symphony Orchestra, and teaches courses in violin, viola, string techniques, and instrumental conducting at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
His research focuses on the orchestral music of American composer David Kraehenbuehl, particularly the symbolic use of triads in his mature works. He has presented lecture-concerts and scholarly papers on this topic, including an invitation from Yale University to present at a conference co-sponsored by the Yale Music Library and the David Kraehenbuehl Society.
Dr. Dissmore has received recognition for his teaching excellence, including being named the 2015 Collegiate Educator of the Year by the Missouri chapter of the American String Teachers Association. He has mentored numerous students who have gone on to successful careers in music education, church music, and performance.
He is actively involved in professional organizations, including serving as President of the David Kraehenbuehl Society and holding memberships in the National Association for Music Education, American String Teachers Association, International Conductors Guild, College Orchestra Directors Association, Music Teachers National Association, Christian Instrumentalists and Directors Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Sigma, and Kappa Delta Pi.
As a performer, he is Principal Second Violinist with the Springfield (MO) Symphony and has performed with numerous regional orchestras and artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Kenny Rogers, and Johnny Mathis. He has also conducted the Springfield Youth Symphony and guest conducted orchestras across Missouri and Arkansas.
