Larissa FastHorse (Sicangu Lakota Nation) is a Professor of Practice in the Department of English at Arizona State University (ASU). She is a 2020 MacArthur Fellow, award-winning playwright, choreographer, and co-founder of Indigenous Direction, a leading Indigenous arts consulting company. Her work focuses on themes of cultural representation, community engagement, and Native American experiences. Notable plays include The Thanksgiving Play, Urban Rez, and Native Nation, the latter involving over 400 Indigenous artists. Her projects have received major funding from the MacArthur Foundation, NEA, Mellon Foundation, and others.
Her recent collaborations include the first Indigenous land acknowledgment for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (NBC) and developments in film/TV with Apple TV and NBC. She has held fellowships at Sundance, Fox, and ABC, and her plays have been produced nationally by institutions like The Public Theater, Yale Rep, and the Guthrie Theater. FastHorse also serves on the Theater Communications Group board and lives in Santa Monica with her husband, sculptor Edd Hogan.
