Larissa Fast is a Professor of Humanitarian and Conflict Studies at the University of Manchester's Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute (HCRI). She holds additional roles as a Global Fellow at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and Research Associate at ODI. Her career includes positions at the Kroc Institute (University of Notre Dame) and Conrad Grebel University College (University of Waterloo).
Her research focuses on humanitarian protection, violence against aid workers, and ethical use of technology in crises. Key projects include studying healthcare attacks’ long-term impacts, data ethics in humanitarian tech, and UN Sustainable Development Goal contributions. She has secured funding from UK DFID, Norway’s Research Council, Wellcome Trust, and USAID.
Research interests span humanitarian intervention effectiveness, NGO security management, and local-global partnerships. Notable collaborations involve the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Johns Hopkins, and Chatham House. Her book Aid in Danger remains a seminal work in the field.
Publications emphasize ethical dilemmas in conflict/disaster research, healthcare worker safety, and technology governance. Media contributions include commentary on pandemic-era aid challenges and blockchain’s role in humanitarian logistics.
