Lara Jurković is a Researcher at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, affiliated with the Laboratory for Marine Nanotechnology and Biotechnology under the Center for Marine Research. Her work focuses on nanomaterial interactions in marine and biological systems, with a strong emphasis on nanoparticle toxicity, biomineralization mechanisms, and environmental impacts. She holds a doctoral degree from the University of Zagreb (2018) and a diploma in colloid chemistry (2012).
Her research interests span nanotoxicology, marine biology, and environmental chemistry. Key areas include studying how nanoparticle properties (e.g., size, coating) affect marine organisms like sea urchins and mussels, investigating calcium carbonate/biomineralization processes, and analyzing the behavior of nanomaterials in aquatic environments.
Her publications highlight advancements in understanding silver and copper nanoparticle toxicity, polymer-nanoparticle interactions, and the role of amino acids in biomineralization. She has contributed to conferences and editorial roles, including organizing the 4th International Scientific Meeting of COST Action CM1306 in 2018.
Lara collaborates with institutions like the Faculty of Science (University of Zagreb) and international teams on projects involving EPR spectroscopy, microbial ecology, and biomedical materials. She also engages in science communication through outreach programs like the Znanstveni prozor u zaštitu našeg mora educational initiative.
