Lara Farina is a Professor of English at West Virginia University, specializing in medieval literature and culture, sensory studies, and histories of embodiment. Her research explores tactile object studies, vegetal sensation, and affective dimensions of artifacts. She edited the award-winning journal postmedieval (2015–2020) and co-edited the special issue The Intimate Senses. Her work bridges literary analysis with material culture, including a visual exhibit on herbals displayed at academic and public venues.
Her research focuses on medieval tactility, non-human perception, and vegetal sensitivity. Notable projects include The Middle Shore, an online collaborative project on fragmented artifacts, and studies on medieval plant perception. She has published widely in journals like Exemplaria, Yearbook of English Studies, and postmedieval.
Dr. Farina’s work engages interdisciplinary approaches, blending literary analysis with sensory history and digital humanities. Her current projects include exploring touch in medieval contexts and modern speculative narratives on non-normative perception.
