Lara Cohen is an Associate Professor in the English Literature department at Swarthmore College. Her research and teaching focus on early American literature, particularly nineteenth-century African American literature, literary theory, Marxism, and old media. She has published two influential books: Going Underground: Race, Space, and the Subterranean in the Nineteenth-Century United States (2023) and The Fabrication of American Literature: Fraudulence and Antebellum Print Culture (2012), and co-edited Early African American Print Culture (2012) with Jordan Alexander Stein.
