Lance Patten

Lance Patten is a Research Associate at Boise State University's Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering since January 2020. His research focuses on advanced materials characterization, nanomaterials, and radiation effects in materials. He holds a Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering and is pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering (undergraduate research on Ni-Mn-Ga magnetic shape-memory alloys)
• Master of Engineering (focused on irradiation effects on titanium dioxide nanotubes and Monte Carlo simulations)

Research Interests: Lance investigates materials under extreme conditions, including magnetic shape-memory alloys, nanotube irradiation damage, and surface characterization techniques (AFM, AES, EBSD). His work bridges nanotechnology and materials engineering for practical applications in energy and advanced manufacturing.

Labs and Teams: He contributes to the Quantum DNA Research Group and Excitonics team, advancing interdisciplinary materials science research.
