Lance Herrington

Lance Herrington is an Instructor of Intensive English in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Mississippi's College of Liberal Arts. He also serves as the Coordinator of Instructional Services for the Intensive English Program, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping ESL education.

Education:

• B.A. in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin (1993)
• M.A. in Art History from the University of Mississippi (1998)
• M.A. in Modern Languages (TESOL) from the University of Mississippi (2008)

Research and Teaching Interests:

His primary expertise lies in TESOL education, with extensive experience teaching English as a second language across multiple proficiency levels. His background in Art History also informs his interdisciplinary approach, particularly in courses covering Non-Western Art and Western Art history. He has taught in diverse international settings, including Osaka, Japan and Quito, Ecuador, which enriches his focus on intercultural communication and American culture studies.

His course offerings span from foundational ESL skills (speaking, listening, grammar, reading) to advanced topics like English for Academic Purposes, Literature in English, and American Cultural Studies. He also teaches art history courses including Egyptian Art and Architecture and History of Art I & II, demonstrating a unique blend of linguistic and visual cultural pedagogy.
