Lance Day serves as an Associate Librarian and Reference and Instruction Librarian within the Reference and Research Services department at Samford University Library. He joined the institution in 2014, focusing on liaison work emphasizing student-centered library instruction and consultations. His career transition from social work to librarianship informs his student-support ethos, prioritizing individualized needs in academic settings.
Dr. Day holds a BSW from the University of Montevallo, an MSW from the University of Georgia, and an MLIS from the University of Alabama. His liaison responsibilities span the School of Health Professions, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, School of Public Health, and Social Work.
His research and presentations center on information literacy, library outreach, and evidence-based practice, with a focus on health sciences education. He has contributed to peer-reviewed journals like portal: Libraries and the Academy and College & Undergraduate Libraries, and co-authored a chapter in Innovative LibGuides Applications.
Dr. Day received the Frances Marlin Mann Community-Based Learning Fellowship (2019–2020). His collaborative work includes developing service-learning assignments, enhancing library instruction for distance education, and integrating information literacy into curricula across disciplines. He actively participates in regional and national academic library conferences, presenting on topics like pseudoscience mitigation in library teaching and interdisciplinary partnerships.
