Lana Whiskeyjack is an Associate Professor in the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Arts. As a scholartist and arts actionist from Saddle Lake Cree Nation, she integrates visual storytelling, Indigenous languages, and spirit-centred practices into her academic work.

Her research focuses on Indigenous gender and sexuality diversity, language reclamation, and rematriation spaces. She employs community engagement protocols rooted in Cree ceremonial practices and relational ethics to address issues like historical trauma and gender-based violence. Her upcoming artwork series explores intersections between Indigenous women’s medicine and science.
Whiskeyjack’s publications emphasize Indigenous methodologies, health restoration through Cree worldviews, and critiques of power dynamics in relationships. She advocates for spirit-centred learning environments and has co-founded initiatives like okimaw kihew mekwanak (formerly Indigenous Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gays in Canada). Her 2024 Community Scholar Award recognizes her community-driven scholarship.
