Lana Obradovic

Lana Obradovic is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), College of Arts and Sciences. She serves as Program Director of the International Studies program, Director of the Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence, and Academic Director of the BOLD Leadership Institute, funded by the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is also a faculty member in USSTRATCOM's Strategic Leadership Fellows Program and teaches the Department of Defense National Security Innovation Network’s 'X-Force' and 'Hacking for Defense' capstone courses.

Her research interests focus on international security, American foreign and national security policymaking, gender and security, post-communist transitions, and regional dynamics in the Balkans and East Asia. She has over 18 years of experience teaching international relations and comparative politics at institutions including St. John’s University, CUNY, Mercy College, and Yonsei University.

Her recent publications and research projects include 'Teaching Deterrence: A 21st Century Update' in the Journal of Political Science Education, USSTRATCOM’s Women, Peace and Security and Deterrence study, and DHS’s workforce intelligence training in counterterrorism. These works reflect a strong trend toward innovative pedagogy in national security education and policy-relevant research on gender integration and strategic deterrence.

Lana Obradovic actively advises students and leads research initiatives in political science and national security. She has secured grants and institutional funding, particularly for the BOLD Leadership Institute and Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence. Her work bridges academic scholarship with practical national security applications through partnerships with USSTRATCOM, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security.

She leads and mentors teams in the BOLD Leadership Institute and Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence, fostering leadership development and intelligence education among students, particularly those from Bosnia and Herzegovina and underrepresented groups in security studies.
