Lana C. Jones

Lana C. Jones is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology within the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science at Florida Atlantic University. She serves as Communications Coordinator and Faculty Advisor for the Owl Wellness program and the CoS DEI Student Ambassadors Program. Additionally, she is a member of DEI and Website committees at the department level, DEI committee at the college level, and Table of Champions at the university level.

Dr. Jones's educational background is as follows:

• Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (2011)
• M.A. in Experimental Psychology from Florida Atlantic University (2006)
• B.A. in Psychobiology from Florida Atlantic University (2004)
• B.S. in Biology from Florida State University (2000)

She is currently completing an M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at FAU College of Education.

Dr. Jones's research interests span Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Biological Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Education. Her work has focused on anesthesia effects on the central nervous system, neurorehabilitation through vibration therapy, and age-related cognitive decline, with particular emphasis on intersections between mental health and educational diversity.

Analysis of her publications reveals consistent neuroscience focus using rodent models to study anesthesia impacts, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and neuroinflammatory mechanisms in aging. Key methodological themes include molecular analysis of neural receptors and behavioral assessment of cognitive deficits across experimental conditions.

As faculty advisor for Owl Wellness and CoS DEI Student Ambassadors, Dr. Jones actively mentors students in wellness initiatives and diversity advocacy. Her teaching philosophy champions reciprocal learning, critical thinking through skepticism, and inclusive environments where mistakes are normalized as part of growth, emphasizing collective resilience through shared educational challenges.
