Dr. Lampros Litos is a Lecturer in Sustainable Manufacturing Operations at Cranfield University's Sustainable Manufacturing Systems Centre. He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering with specialization in Materials Technology from the University of Patras, an MSc in Biotechnology from Ulster University, and an MBA from the University of Ioannina. Prior to academia, he held industrial roles in quality assurance and R&D within the agri-food sector, followed by doctoral research at EPSRC's Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Industrial Sustainability at Cambridge University.
His research focuses on three primary domains: Energy and resource efficiency in manufacturing systems, Innovation and technology management in industrial contexts, and Knowledge Exchange mechanisms for sustainable business practices. Methodologically, he employs participatory scholarship, ethnography, design research, and quantitative analysis to address sustainability challenges across manufacturing and public service sectors.
Publications consistently explore industrial sustainability through waste valorization, circular economy implementation, and process optimization. Recent works demonstrate growing emphasis on AI-enhanced material recovery systems, cross-sector sustainability frameworks, and crisis-resilient supply chains. The research trajectory shows increasing integration of systems thinking across foundation industries.
Significant contributions include:
- Co-development of UKRI-funded sustainability initiatives
- Contributions to the Royal Society of Chemistry's polymer sustainability report
- Research on digital-enabled industrial collaborations for Nesta
- Patent development for zeolite production from rice husk ash
He maintains active industry engagement through projects addressing carbon accounting for SMEs, eco-efficiency toolkits, and sustainable transformation in manufacturing and public service organizations.
