Laine Chanteloup is an Assistant Professor with conditional pre-tenure at the University of Lausanne's Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGD), affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Center for Mountain Research in Sion. She holds a Master's from the Institute of Alpine Geography (Grenoble) and a cotutelle PhD from the University of Savoie-Mont-Blanc and University of Montreal. Her postdoctoral research focused on Nunavik's human-environment dynamics, followed by a lecturer position at the University of Limoges (2016).
Her research explores socio-spatial interactions between humans and animals in mountain and Arctic regions, emphasizing Indigenous perspectives and youth engagement. Key projects include an ANR-funded study on alpine wildlife-sports interactions and transformative socio-cultural relationships in Nunavik. Methodologically, she employs participatory video and ethnoecological approaches.
Recent publications analyze wildlife tourism in the French Alps, Inuit river relations, and participatory methods with Indigenous youth. She co-edited a volume on Alpine soundscapes (Résonances) and contributed to studies on mountain socio-ecological systems. Current affiliations include the IGD and Sion's mountain research center, with interdisciplinary collaboration across environmental health and sustainable tourism initiatives.
