Laima Tomėnienė is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Education within the Šiauliai Academy of Vilnius University, specializing in inclusive education and special educational needs. She holds a PhD in Social Sciences (Education) from Šiauliai University (2014), focusing on functional mathematical literacy development for students with special needs. Her roles include membership in committees for Special Pedagogy and Speech Therapy programs, the Lifelong Learning Center, and Youth Volunteer coordination.
Education: Began as a certified special pedagogue (1995), earned a Master’s in Social Sciences (1997), and completed doctoral research on mathematical literacy in mainstream schools (2014). Professional experience spans teaching, research, and administrative roles since 1995, including leadership in the Lower Secondary Education Department (2011–2015) and active participation in international projects like ENNEADI (2021–2022) and professional rehabilitation initiatives (2015–2016).
Research interests center on inclusive education, special needs pedagogy, functional mathematics for disadvantaged students, and teacher training. She has authored/co-authored over 50 publications, including books and peer-reviewed articles, and presented at conferences globally. Her work emphasizes collaborative practices, teacher-parent partnerships, and policy development for equitable education systems. Awards include recognition from the Lithuanian Ministry of Education (2021).
