Lai-Sang Young is the Henry & Lucy Moses Professor of Science and Professor of Mathematics at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. She holds affiliations within the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Graduate School of Arts and Science. Her research focuses on dynamical systems, chaos theory, and theoretical neuroscience, with notable contributions to Lyapunov exponents, strange attractors, and applications in large stochastic systems.
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, UC Berkeley (1978)
- M.S. in Mathematics, UC Berkeley (1976)
- B.A. in Mathematics, University of Wisconsin (1973)
Her work bridges pure mathematics and applied fields, emphasizing statistical properties of chaotic systems and recent explorations into neural systems modeling. Publications highlight foundational studies in dynamical systems theory and emerging neuroscience applications. She leads the Dynamical Systems Group at NYU.
