LYU Xiaopu serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), where he leads the Emerging Air pollution and Sustainable Environment (EASE) research group and contributes to the Smart Society Lab. His work bridges atmospheric science and environmental policy with focus on South China's air quality challenges.
Education:
- Ph.D. from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong
- M.Sc. from Wuhan University, China
- B.Sc. from Zhejiang University of Technology, China
Dr. Lyu's research centers on atmospheric reactive organics, ozone formation mechanisms, and health impacts of air pollution. His approach integrates field measurements, chemical modeling, and policy analysis to address emerging pollution challenges in rapidly developing Asian regions, particularly examining biogenic-anthropogenic interactions and transboundary transport effects. Recent work increasingly connects air quality with climate change mitigation strategies.
Analysis of his 2017-2024 publications reveals evolving research trajectories: early work focused on VOC chemistry fundamentals (2017-2020), shifting toward policy-relevant ozone control strategies (2020-2022), and culminating in integrated climate-air quality frameworks (2023-2024). The publications consistently emphasize South China's unique pollution dynamics while contributing to global understanding of secondary pollutant formation.
Scientific Awards:
- Faculty/School Performance Award 2024 (HKBU)
- iENA Gold Medal & Special Merit Award (2019, Nuremberg)
- HKIE Environmental Paper Award Champion (2019)
- National Scholarship for Postgraduates (PRC, 2013)
- Wuhan University Outstanding Individual (2013)
Dr. Lyu currently directs five major research projects totaling over HK$3.7 million, including RGC-funded investigations into ozone formation mechanisms in Central China, Southeast Asia emission transport impacts, and pandemic-related air quality changes. His service includes editorial roles for The Innovation (IF: 32.1), organizing Nature-index journal special issues, and committee positions with the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences and HKDSE Geography Subject Committee. As active reviewer for 10+ top environmental journals, he contributes significantly to scholarly discourse while leading the EASE research group's field campaigns and modeling efforts.
