Prof. LI Fong Yau, Sam is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the National University of Singapore (NUS), affiliated with the Faculty of Science. He holds a B.Sc., Ph.D., and D.Sc. from Imperial College London, UK. His research focuses on environmental science and technology, nanomaterials, metabolomics, and water treatment innovations. Key achievements include over 430 peer-reviewed publications (H-index 72), 20+ U.S. patents, and editorial roles in international journals.
Research interests span environmental analysis, waste-to-energy systems, microbial fuel cells, and advanced materials for desalination. Notable contributions include chlorine-resistant membranes and metabolomic biomarker discovery. Awards include the NUS Outstanding Researcher Award (1999) and DuPont Accomplishment Award (1993). He teaches CM4242 Advanced Analytical Techniques and leads a research group with active projects in environmental sustainability and nanotechnology.
