L. (Lu) Zhou

Dr. L. (Lu) Zhou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dynamics Meteorology at Utrecht University's Faculty of Science. His research focuses on remote sensing, oceanography, and Antarctic studies. He holds a PhD in Cryosphere from Tsinghua University (2021) and a BSc in Atmosphere Science from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (2015). Prior to his current role, he was a postdoc in Oceanography at Gothenburg University (2021–2023).

His work explores sea ice dynamics, polynya formation, and snow-ice interactions in polar regions. Recent studies include Weddell Sea polynyas, Arctic wave-affected ice zones, and Southern Ocean satellite observations. He is an EGU Cryosphere Early Career Scientist representative and teaches courses on Climate Physics and Remote Sensing.

Publications highlight advancements in radar altimetry, microwave backscatter, and snow depth retrieval. His contributions span 20+ peer-reviewed articles, with notable works on polynya climatic impacts and Arctic ice zone records.
