Zoltán Kónya is a prominent academic at the University of Szeged, Hungary, serving as Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs & Innovation since 2018. He previously led the Chemistry Institute (2011–2018), the Environmental Doctoral School, and the Surface Chemistry and Reaction Kinetics Research Group (Hungarian Academy of Sciences). His roles include Associate Professor (2005–2012) and Assistant Professor (2002–2005).
Education: PhD student at the University of Szeged (1994–1997), with visiting scientist positions at the University of California Berkeley (2001–2002) and Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix, Namur, Belgium (1997–2000).
Research focuses on nanotechnology, including carbon and inorganic nanotubes, catalytic nanoparticles, nanocomposites, and nanotoxicity. He also explores freon adsorption on zeotype materials and surface chemistry.
Recognized with prestigious awards such as the 2022 Research.com Chemistry Leader Award and the 2019 Hungarian Order of Merit. His leadership includes directing research groups and doctoral programs.
