Kyriakos Neanidis is a Professor of Economics at the University of Manchester, based in the School of Social Sciences. He holds a BSc and MSc from the University of Macedonia (Greece) and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (USA). His research focuses on monetary policy, macroprudential regulation, economic growth, and the economics of crime. He has supervised eight PhD students and taught courses such as Macroeconomics at the Masters and undergraduate levels. His recent work explores the implications of monetary policies on bank lending and the effects of the pandemic on crime trends in England. He is a co-investigator in projects like the ESRC-DFID initiative on financial volatility in low-income countries.
Key research areas include the interplay between financial systems and real economies, colonial legacies on corruption, and crime patterns. His activities include organizing conferences, delivering invited talks, and serving on academic committees like the Carnegie Trust. He has published extensively in journals such as the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization and the Journal of Regional Science.
