Kylie Sandy-Hodgetts is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Western Australia, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University's School of Medicine. She founded and presides over the International Surgical Wound Complications Advisory Panel (ISWCAP) and directs the Skin Integrity Research Institute. Her leadership extends to the World Union of Wound Healing Societies Scientific & Ethics Committee and past roles as Chair of Wounds Australia and Council Member of the European Wound Management Association.
Her research centers on surgical wound complications, clinical trials (Phase I-IV), and translational wound healing with emphasis on prevention and risk assessment. She actively contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through innovations in medical devices, diagnostics, and preventive medicine, particularly in surgical site infection reduction and post-operative care optimization.
Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal a strategic shift toward technology-integrated wound management, including smartphone-based remote monitoring systems and evidence-based guidelines for incision care. Her work demonstrates increasing focus on patient-centered outcomes in orthopaedic surgery and holistic approaches to chronic wound conditions like venous ulcers.

She directs the Skin Integrity Research Institute, fostering global collaboration through the International Surgical Wound Complications Advisory Panel and World Union of Wound Healing Societies. Her teams develop clinical consensus documents and drive international standardization in surgical wound management.
