Kyle Smith

Kyle Smith serves as Professor in the History of Religions program within Historical Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), with cross-appointments to the Department for the Study of Religion, Centre for Medieval Studies, and Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations at the St. George campus.

His academic credentials include a PhD from Duke University and MA/BA degrees from the University of Notre Dame, reflecting specialized training in early Christian history and Syriac studies.

Smith's research centers on fourth-to-sixth century Christianity in Roman Mesopotamia and Sasanian Persia, with particular expertise in Syriac martyrdom narratives, ascetic practices, and gender dynamics.
