Kyle Harper is Professor of Classics and Letters at the University of Oklahoma and a member of the Fractal Faculty at the Santa Fe Institute. He holds the G.T. and Libby Blankenship Chair in the History of Liberty and serves as Senior Advisor to the President and Provost Emeritus at the University of Oklahoma.
His research integrates natural sciences into historical studies, focusing on climate change and pandemic disease in the ancient Roman world. He explores humanity's role as ecological agents across global history, analyzing historical perspectives on biodiversity, health, and environmental sustainability through works like The Fate of Rome (2017) and Plagues upon the Earth (2021 PROSE Award winner).
