Kyle Dodson is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Merced, affiliated with the School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts. He holds a BA from The University of Texas, and an MA and PhD from Indiana University.
His research focuses on political sociology, social movements, and quantitative methodology, particularly exploring how citizen engagement in democratic politics has evolved since the 1960s. Recent work examines shifts in protest and electoral participation, as well as the role of institutions like political parties and voluntary associations in shaping political mobilization.
Key research trends include analyzing cross-national protest data to assess the 'movement society' hypothesis and studying the impact of party polarization on U.S. voter turnout since the 1980s. His work integrates comparative perspectives and statistical methods to address democratic engagement dynamics.
