KuanYi Chao is an Assistant Professor of Chinese in the Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Utah. She received her Ph.D. in General Linguistics with minors in Second Language Studies and Speech and Hearing Science from Indiana University Bloomington, an M.A. from Newcastle University, and a certification in Teaching of Chinese from The Ohio State University.

Her research focuses on phonetic acquisition and phonological development in bilingual learners within Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs, integrating expertise in speech production and perception, Chinese linguistics, and second language acquisition. She has taught courses ranging from beginner to advanced Mandarin Chinese, graduate-level language studies, and introductory Chinese linguistics.
She is proficient in both Chinese (Mandarin) and English, with capabilities in reading, writing, speaking, understanding, and peer review.
