Kuan-Hui Ethan Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University, with a focus on tumor immunology, cancer stem cells, and metabolic regulation in cancer. He previously served as Assistant Professor at Delta State University (2020-2022) and held research roles at the University of California Riverside.
- Education: Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (2011, UC Riverside), M.S. in Biotechnology (2004, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan), B.S. in Life Science (2002, Tzu-Chi University, Taiwan)
His research explores how tumor stem cells evade immune surveillance through hormonal regulation, cytokine secretion, metabolic changes, and small RNA interference. Current projects aim to identify novel therapeutic targets via omics data and investigate sex differences in tumor immunity.
Recent publications emphasize antigen presentation assays, mirtron roles in cancer, prolactin-CD44 iron metabolism interactions, and mechanisms of immune evasion via asymmetric dimethylarginine. The 15 most recent articles span cancer biology, immunology, endocrinology, and metabolism with subfields in tumor microenvironment, RNA biology, and sex-specific therapies.
Dr. Chen mentors a team including Ph.D. candidates, master's students, and undergraduates, with alumni transitioning to medical or graduate programs. His lab website https://ethankchen.wixsite.com/chenlab details ongoing work in tumor immunity and metabolism.
