Krystallia Dimitriadou is a Researcher at the Department of Wind and Energy Systems, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), specializing in Meteorology and Remote Sensing within the Wind Energy Systems Division. Her work significantly contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to clean energy and climate action.
Her research expertise spans atmospheric electricity phenomena, particularly focusing on corona discharges, lightning processes, and thunderstorm physics. She combines these interests with wind energy applications through remote sensing technologies and atmospheric modeling. Her work bridges fundamental atmospheric science with practical wind energy resource assessment.
Her recent publications demonstrate strong trends in applying space-based observations (particularly ASIM - Atmosphere-Space Interaction Monitor) to study electrical processes in thunderstorms, while simultaneously advancing offshore wind field characterization using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology. This dual focus connects upper atmospheric physics with renewable energy applications.
Scientific Awards:
- Danish Meteorological Society (DAMS) travel grant (2023)
- ESA travel grant (2023)
- Otto Mønsted travel grant (2019 and 2023)
- Student travel grant - AGU Fall Meeting (2019)
Dimitriadou serves as Principal Investigator for the DigiWind project (2024-2027) and Project Manager for both the Thunderbolt and ESA WAII projects, demonstrating significant leadership in securing research funding. Her projects focus on wind energy systems, atmospheric flow integration, and artificial intelligence applications for wind assessment. She has been actively involved in European collaborative research initiatives including the LIKE project.
Her work connects with international research networks through collaborations with the European Space Agency and participation in global atmospheric electricity research communities, particularly in the study of thunderstorm-related phenomena and their applications to wind energy systems.
