Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciencesمعرفی
Kryslaine Radomski, Ph.D. serves as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics within the School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD. Her research focuses on traumatic brain injury mechanisms with emphasis on white matter pathology and glial cell responses.
Education:
- Post-doctoral Training, Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine, The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Bethesda, MD
- Post-doctoral Training, Department of Neurosciences, University of California - San Diego, La Jolla, CA
- Ph.D., Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience Concentration, College of Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL
- B.S., with honors, Biological Sciences; Minor in Chemistry, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Illinois State University, Normal, IL
Dr. Radomski's research program investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying white matter damage following traumatic brain injury (TBI), with particular focus on axon degeneration, myelin dynamics, and glial responses. Her work employs advanced neuroimaging techniques including diffusion tensor MRI, sophisticated animal models (particularly gyrencephalic ferret models), and molecular interventions targeting pathways like SARM1-mediated axon degeneration. Current projects examine chronic neurodegenerative processes, sex differences in TBI outcomes, and pharmacological strategies such as 4-aminopyridine therapy for neuroprotection.
Analysis of her 11 most recent publications (2016-2024) reveals consistent focus on white matter pathophysiology in TBI models, with increasing emphasis on longitudinal degeneration patterns, multimodal assessment approaches (combining histopathology, neuroimaging, and behavioral outcomes), and translational therapeutic strategies. Her work bridges basic neuroscience with military-relevant neurotrauma contexts.
Scientific Contributions:
- Developed ferret models for gyrencephalic TBI research
- Elucidated temporal dynamics of axon conduction deficits
- Investigated SARM1 pathway as therapeutic target
- Explored sex differences in post-TBI hypersomnia
- Validated 4-AP for mitigating demyelination
Dr. Radomski maintains active research collaborations through the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine and contributes to the military medicine mission of USUHS. Her work receives support through military-relevant neurotrauma grants focused on improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for service members with brain injuries.
