Kristy D. Cherry-Randle is an Instructor in the Department of English at the University of Alabama. Her academic background includes a PhD in Literature, Media, and Culture from Florida State University (2023), an MA in Digital Humanities (2021) and American Studies (2016) from the University of Alabama, a BA in English (2016), and a BAC in Journalism (2014), all from the University of Alabama.
Her research focuses on Early American Literature, Native American and Indigenous Literatures, and Literary Cartography. She explores first encounter moments between Indigenous peoples and Europeans, Indigenous textual cultures, and the history of text technologies. Her digital humanities project, The Cabeza Matrix, re-centers Indigenous voices in a spatially interactive framework. She is also developing works such as The Cabeza Matrix: Mapping Colonialism and Indigeneity in Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca’s La Relación and Counter Narratives: Disrupting Canonical Literary, Historical, and Cultural Records (working title).
