Kristine Wohlfart is a Researcher at the Department of Eastern European History, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, with a focus on Baltic history, national movements, and ethnic relations. She earned her Magistra Artium in Eastern European History, German Studies, and Comparative Literature from Mainz (1995) and a doctorate there in 2003.
Her research explores Latvia's historical transitions, including the Riga Latvian Society (1868–1905) and projects like Jews and Germans in Latvia 1919–1939 (funded by Federal Ministry of Culture). Key themes include acculturation, identity, and post-socialist rural life in Ozoli (1964–1995).
Wohlfart authored monographs on Riga's role in Latvian nationalism and co-edited multiethnic urban studies. She has contributed essays on Baltic statehood, Russification, and literary biographies. Her work appears in journals like Research on Baltic History and Latvijas Vēstures Institūta Žurnāls.
