Dr. Kristina Rösel is the interim Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Breeding in the Tropics and Subtropics at the University of Hohenheim, Germany. She holds a DVM and PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Freie Universität Berlin. Her career includes roles at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), where she coordinated major projects like the BUILD initiative (2019–2023) and contributed to the OHRECA One Health center conceptualization.
Her research focuses on zoonotic disease epidemiology, particularly at the livestock-wildlife-human interface, parasitology, and food safety in Sub-Saharan Africa. Key projects include analyzing small ruminant movements in Uganda, Rift Valley Fever virus genomics in Rwanda, and antimicrobial resistance in poultry farms. She has also investigated Brucella exposure in slaughterhouse workers and the misuse of antiretrovirals in livestock.
Dr. Rösel’s work emphasizes South-South knowledge transfer and participatory methods. She volunteers with Malawi conservation groups like the Wildlife Action Group and has authored/co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications. Her research spans epidemiology, molecular diagnostics, and policy interventions to enhance food safety and public health.
