Kristina Mashimi

Kristina Mashimi is a Researcher at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology, Free University of Berlin, affiliated with the Collaborative Research Center 1171 'Affective Societies'. Mashimi’s research explores the intersections of religion, education, colonialism, and global capitalism, with a focus on decolonial perspectives by activists and artists in Tanzania and transnational contexts. Her work addresses moral learning in Islamic schools, refugee camp ethnography, and the ethical challenges of collaborative research in neoliberal academia.

Her publications span topics such as Gülen Movement schools in East Africa, gender dynamics in forced migration, and affective frameworks in social transformation. She emphasizes interdisciplinary methodologies, particularly in medical anthropology, gender studies, and postcolonial theory, while engaging with activist networks and grassroots communities.
