Kristina Edström serves as Associate Professor in Engineering Education Development at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, where she has been CDIO Program Leader since 2005 (co-leader since 2013 with Jakob Kuttenkeuler). Her work spans institutional, national, and international engineering education reform through the CDIO Initiative since 2001.
Her research focuses on systemic improvement of engineering education across multiple levels. Key interests include:
- Conditions for curriculum transformation
- Integration of Problem-Based Learning with CDIO frameworks
- Learning-centered course evaluation methodologies
- International collaboration models for educational development
Edström co-authored the seminal work Rethinking Engineering Education: The CDIO Approach (Crawley et al., 2007; 2014) and served on the CDIO Council (2005-2013 as founding member, 2014 onward as elected member-at-large). Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on practical implementation frameworks for engineering pedagogy.
As CDIO Program Leader at KTH, she directs institutional adoption of engineering education reforms while contributing to global knowledge through conference proceedings and collaborative research. Her work bridges theoretical educational research with practical curriculum implementation across 150+ international institutions in the CDIO network.
